The Love Triangle (Third Quarter)
The Love Triangle
In the third quarter of the book, a long passage describes a night F. spent with Edith. In this passage, both of those characters almost reach a full orgasm. This section of the text well represents the main theme of Beautiful Losers. Indeed, the book often talks about sexual intercourse. In this letter, we understand that F., loves both, Edith and the unnamed character, deeply. Throughout this section, we could understand that F. was unhappy. He is hospitalized in an asylum. F., in his long letter, said, “I followed women into Parliament because I know how they love power. I followed women into the beds of men so that I could learn what they found there.” This quote demonstrates that F. was trying to understand the world he is living in. He wanted to understand better the women to know how it feels to be like them. F. was looking for happiness and he thought that women may have the secret to that, so he was trying to be like them.
The picture below represents the relationship between the three main characters. They were all really close, they appreciate each other, and they spent most of their time together.
