Glossary of terms

 

  1. Brethren  

In French: frères 

Sentence: “Your brethren have forgotten how to build them.” (p. 5; line 22) 

 

  1. Forlorn  

In French: triste, mélancolique 

Sentence: “[…] - I was suddenly forlorn - […]” (p.97; line 9) 

 

  1. Esoteric  

In frenchÉsotérique  

It means very unusual, also understood or like by only a small group of people 

Sentence: “What use all your esoteric teaching without your particular experience?” (p.130, line 7) 


   Filthy

In Frenchdégoûtantsâle 

Sentence: “Edith knows about our filthy activities?” (p.98; line 12) 

 

  1. Warts 

In Frenchverrue 

Sentence: “F.! Don’t eat your warts!” (p.105; line 9) 

 

  1. Bivouac

  1. Semen

  1.  Eccentricity
