Glossary of terms

 

1. Brethren  

In French: frères 

Sentence: “Your brethren have forgotten how to build them.” (p. 5; line 22) 

 

2. Forlorn  

In French: triste, mélancolique 

Sentence: “[…] - I was suddenly forlorn - […]” (p.97; line 9) 

 

3. Esoteric  

In french: Ésotérique  

It means very unusual, also understood or like by only a small group of people 

Sentence: “What use all your esoteric teaching without your particular experience?” (p.130, line 7) 

   Filthy

In French: dégoûtant, sâle 

Sentence: “Edith knows about our filthy activities?” (p.98; line 12) 

 

5. Warts 

In French: verrue 

Sentence: “F.! Don’t eat your warts!” (p.105; line 9) 

 

6. Bivouac 

In French: campement  

Sentence: Then they pitched their tents, built their bivouac fires, stationed guards, and lay down to rest. (p.131, line 7) 

 

7. Semen 

In French: sperme 

Sentence: “Slof tlif, sounded the geysers of his semen as they hit the dashboard (surely the sound of upstream salmon smashing their skulls on underwater cliffs).” (p.97; line 4) 

 

8. Upturned  

In French: retourner/renverser 

Sentence: “Thus she launched her death, upturned face of white, under the concentrated gaze of the village.” (p. 221, line 22) 

 

9. Mundane 

In French: sans intérêt 

Sentence: “Let the mundane Church serve the White Race with a burning church.” (p.222; line 13) 

 

10.  Eccentricity 

In French: Excentricité 

Sentence: "There is nothing so depressing as the eccentricity of contemporary."
